The Onyx Collection was inspired by the Onyx subculture that exists on Hampton University’s campus in Hampton, Virgina USA. The original purpose of creating sub cultures for incoming freshman classes was to exemplify the character of the class. The Onyx class name was born in September 1980 which led to the first graduating class of 1984 who stood by the motto “Black and United.”
